Chicken Parm Bites

 Ingredients

  • 2 c. panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp. paprika
  • 1/4 c. grated Parmesan
  • 1 large egg, beaten with 1 tbsp water
  • 2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 lb. boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite size pieces
  • kosher salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 1 c. marinara
  • 1/4 lb. mozzarella, cut into 1/2" cubes
  • 2 tbsp. chopped fresh basil

  1. Preheat oven to 350º. Prepare breading station with 3 large bowls: In one bowl, whisk together breadcrumbs, garlic powder, paprika, and Parmesan; in another bowl egg; and in the last bowl flour.
  2. Season chicken with salt and pepper. Coat each piece of chicken in flour and shake off excess, then dip into egg, and lastly, coat in breadcrumb mixture. Repeat steps for remaining chicken and set aside on a plate.
  3. In a deep cast-iron skillet, warm 1" oil over medium-high heat. Add chicken and cook until golden, 5 to 7 minutes. Drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
  4. Arrange chicken in a baking dish in a single layer. Add a small spoonful of marinara over chicken and top with a cube of mozzarella.
  5. Bake until chicken is warmed through and cheese is melty, 3 to 5 minutes.
  6. Garnish with basil and serve immediately.

 Buffalo Chicken Meatballs

Go balls to the wall for these buff chick meatballs.

Ingredients

  • 4 tbsp. unsalted butter
  • 1/3 c. hot sauce (such as Frank's Red Hot)
  • 1/3 c. crumbled blue cheese
  • kosher salt
  • 1/3 c. panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 celery stalks, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp. onion powder
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 c. sliced scallions, plus more for garnish
  • 1 lb. ground chicken
  • extra-virgin olive oil

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 425º. In a small saucepan over medium heat, add butter, hot sauce, blue cheese, and 1/2 tsp salt. Whisk until butter and cheese are melted and fully incorporated, 2 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool.
  2. Meanwhile, in a medium bowl, mix together breadcrumbs, 1/2 tsp salt, celery, onion powder, garlic, egg, and scallions. Add chicken and half of the hot sauce mixture and blend until combined. Do not over-mix.

MAKING YOUR BOATING A LITTLE MORE COMFORTABLE

Posted On: January 29, 2018

Towels For After-Swim Drying

Light colors reflect sunlight while dark colors absorb it. That absorbed light turns into thermal energy, making dark towels dry more quickly. Ideally, this gives you a dry towel rather than a damp one for your second dip of the day.

Clear Vision

Salt spray can quickly coat the lenses of eyewear. Dim vision is the result, often accompanied by eyestrain. An easy solution is a small trigger bottle filled with fresh water. Several strong squirts on the face of each lens dissolve and carry away the salt film, rendering those fuzzy numbers on instruments clear again. It's not necessary to wipe the lenses after spraying as the remaining spots of clear water will not have a large effect on vision and the fresh water quickly evaporates. Restore your vision this way without even removing the eyewear, and on a hot day you'll get the added benefit of a bit of evaporative cooling on your forehead.

Shrinking Canvas

Some types of canvas shrink when wet. If you leave the canvas exposed to dew, then try to snap it on first thing in the morning, it won't fit. Eliminate the problem by stretching it out in the sun and allowing it to dry thoroughly. Then keep it dry before putting it on. Canvas-fitting problems often result when the frame's top becomes slightly bent. Luckily, you can get canvas extensions (available from West Marine), which fit between the canvas and the snap, making an easy fit possible no matter the cause.

Water With A Handle

Carry extra water in collapsible jugs. You can fold these up and get them out of the way when they're empty. You can also use them to heat water for showers. Just leave them in the sun. Better still, cover them with a black garbage bag and they'll heat up quickly. Wash out before reusing.

WHY BOATS SHOWS

Posted On: January 22, 2018

Why boat shows?

The boating industry relies on consumer preferences, behavior and decision-making. Boat shows provide an opportunity for the general public to understand the products and the services that the industry offers, as well as to appreciate and adopt the boating lifestyle.

Customers want and need to compare products and there is no other market place where exhibitors can show their full potential and distinguish themselves from others, For people in general, it is important to feel and experience things in order to come to a clear decision.

Boat shows are an industry in itself,, with several international organizations focused on staging and managing boat shows annually. The IFBSO was founded in 1964 to help the development of boat shows and marine trade exhibitions worldwide. In North America, the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) is currently the “world’s leading producer of consumer boat and sport shows, managing more than twenty shows in the largest cities in the U.S.” The NMMA was formed in 1979, but traces back its roots to 1904 when the National Association of Engine and Boat Manufacturers of New York was founded. In Australia, the various state Boating Industries Associations (BIA) organize boat shows in major cities, such as Sydney International Boat Show (SIBS), owned and operated by BIA NSW & SA Pty. Ltd, and the Melbourne Boat Show, owned and operated by BIA Victoria.

These organizations and their continuing growth and success in staging boat shows over the decades prove how boat shows are important, not only for consumers, but also for the industry players.

“Boat shows exist to sell product and to promote the boating lifestyle,” states Ben World, executive vice president of NMMA. “The average boat dealer sells between 30 to 50 percent of their annual volume as a result of boat shows or leads generated at a boat show. People shop an average of four to six dealers or manufacturers while at a boat show, so it is a very efficient use of their time when in the market to buy a boat.”

Boat shows were used to offer something different to keep the public interest in boating.

During the economic downturn, boats, engines and accessories sold at boat shows. Those who attended boat shows during that time were interested in buying a boat and were quality leads for dealers and manufacturers.

A change in the themes and marketing plans of boat shows also manifested after the GFC. “Boat shows that have reinvented themselves have become places of entertainment, fun, experience, and of course, a well-sorted arrangement of new products were strong drivers for the industry,” The boat shows had to become partners with the industry, provide service, create visitor potentials, and prove themselves trustworthy while leading the industry

Although boat shows will always have financial significance to the locality, international boat shows provide higher economic benefits. The more international a show is will help determine how many exhibitors and people attend. The more exhibitors and attendees, the larger the economic impact.”

DIRTY THINGS

Posted On: January 17, 2018

Okay, so I was reading the other day and came across an article about the dirtiest things we all touch every day. I’m not a germaphobe at all, but it did get me thinking.

Turns out, some of the most “dirty” items are not the ones you think of. Read on

Based on an article by Markham Heid

The hand-towel hanging next to your bathroom sink. “Bacteria like to grow in wet, moist conditions,” Gerba, a professor of microbiology at the University of Arizona, explains. Towels are made to absorb water, which is great for drying your skin, but not so great when it comes to discouraging bacterial incubation. “Most people don’t wash their hands properly,” he says. So, when you grab that towel, you’re rubbing bacteria into an ideal growing environment—and one few people bother to wash more than once every week or two. You should be washing all towels—including the one you grab after showering—after two days of use, he says.

Another bathroom reservoir of germs is your toothbrush holder. “People never clean them,” Gerba says. A 2011 report from the public health organization NSF International found 27% of toothbrush holders were home to Coliform bacteria—a sickness-causing family of microorganism that includes Salmonella and E. coli.

In the kitchen, your trusty sink sponge is health enemy number one. In fact, that sponge is likely the dirtiest item in your home, Gerba says. “It’s probably home to hundreds of millions of bacteria,” he says. NSF agrees. Its researchers found that 75% of home dish sponges and rags contained Coliform.

You want a kitchen cleaning tool you can throw into the dishwasher to disinfect—like a brush, Gerba says. The same goes for cutting boards. “Most people just rinse or wipe them off,” he says. But only a run through the dishwasher—or a good scrub with dish soap—will get it clean.

When it comes to the items you touch most, Gerba says your cell phone is a big bacteria haven. Studies have found that one in six phones is contaminated with fecal matter, even though a simple swab with a disinfectant wipe is enough to clear away that icky residue.

Finally, when you’re out of your home, watch out for supermarket carts. “Almost 100% of them are home to E. coli because people are constantly touching the handles after holding raw food products,” Gerba explains. He says reusable grocery bags are also nasty—again, because people rarely wash them.

While dozens of other everyday items could make this list—shoelaces, purses, car keys, keyboards, etc.—don’t run out and buy a lot of chemical-ridden cleaners. For one thing, many of them don’t work. For another, many contain substances that are linked to cancer and other health concerns.

Instead, worry about disinfecting your hands when you leave a public space. Gerba says most people pick up dangerous germs when they’re away from home. By simply rubbing on a hand sanitizer or washing your hands the moment you walk into the house, you’d probably cut your odds of catching something in half, he says.

So maybe its time to clean up our act!

MARTIN LUTHER KINGS DAY

Posted On: January 15, 2018

Martin Luther King Jr. Day in the United States

What Do People Do?

Martin Luther King Day is a relatively new federal holiday and there are few long standing traditions. It is seen as a day to promote equal rights for all Americans, regardless of their background. Some educational establishments mark the day by teaching their pupils or students about the work of Martin Luther King and the struggle against racial segregation and racism. In recent years, federal legislation has encouraged Americans to give some of their time on this day as volunteers in citizen action groups.

Martin Luther King Day, also known as Martin Luther King’s birthday and Martin Luther King Jr Day, is combined with other days in different states. For example, it is combined with Civil Rights Day in Arizona and New Hampshire, while it is observed together with Human Rights Day in Idaho. It is also a day that is combined with Robert E. Lee’s birthday in some states. The day is known as Wyoming Equality Day in the state of Wyoming

Martin Luther King was an important civil rights activist. He was a leader in the movement to end racial segregation in the United States. His most famous address was the "I Have A Dream" speech. He was an advocate of non-violent protest and became the youngest man to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. He was assassinated in 1968.

In 1968, shortly after Martin Luther King died, a campaign was started for his birthday to become a holiday to honor him. After the first bill was introduced, trade unions lead the campaign for the federal holiday. It was endorsed in 1976. Following support from the musician Stevie Wonder with his single "Happy Birthday" and a petition with six million signatures, the bill became law in 1983. Martin Luther King Day was first observed in 1986, although it was not observed in all states until the year 2000. In 1990, the Wyoming legislature designated Martin Luther King Jr/Wyoming Equality Day as a legal holiday.

EXACTLY WHAT WAS A BOMB CYCLONE

Posted On: January 08, 2018

What is a bomb cyclone?

It's called a cyclone, a bomb cyclone, or a cyclone bomb. Or a   weather bomb, Or bombogenesis.

What is technically a "midlatitude cyclone" refers to when a storm gains strength from an extreme drop in atmospheric pressure. The effect is prompted by what is technically called "explosive cyclogenesis," and occurs when a storm drops by at least 24 millibars (a unit that measures pressure) in 24 hours.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's  website, a bomb cyclone occurs when a "cold air mass collides with a warm air mass." Cold arctic air colliding with warm ocean water is a common source of this collision.

After pressure plummets, air rushes in to fill the space between these two air masses, creating intense winds and strengthening the storm.

Despite the intense name, bomb cyclones are fairly common, particularly in northern Atlantic regions.
